A NAAC Sponsored Webinar was organized on 15 Sept 2022 by Society of Our Lady of Grace Convent Pushpanjali College of Education, Vasai. The theme of the webinar was ‘Quality Assurance in the Light of NEP 2020’. More than 80 participants, comprising of Principals, teacher- educators, research scholars, teachers from schools and colleges and student-teachers from schools and colleges across India benefited from the webinar. The main objective of the webinar was to stimulate a discussion regarding the role of HEIs in ushering an ethos of quality as envisaged by the NEP 2020.

 Inaugural Session

 The inaugural session began with a short prayer invoking the blessings of the Almighty. Sr Cheryl Gladis and Ms Steffie DCosta led the participants into a prayerful atmosphere. Principal Dr Mabel Pimenta welcomed the participants and shared the rationale of the webinar.

 Technical Session One: NEP 2020 and Vision for 21 st Century Education

 The resource person for this session was Prof Asheesh Srivastava of Department of Education, Vinaya Bhavana (Institute of Education), Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan . He referred to Tagore’s vision for Indian education and traced the important constitutional bases that emphasize the significance of education for all. He discussed important milestones like UNDP Report which catalyzed change in the educational landscape.

 

Technical Session Two: Use of Technology in promoting Optimal Learning Environments

 Shri Mandar Bhanushe , Head, Dept of Mathematics, Institute of Distance Learning, University of Mumbai was the resource person for this session. He elucidated how students should be able to select tools to help them obtain information, analyse and synthesize the information. Next he explained stages of ICT integration in education namely emerging, applying, infusing, transforming and them moving to reinventing. He then got the participants to discuss their views on the four key components of quality learning viz active engagement, participation, participation in groups, frequent interaction and feedback and connecting to real world experts.

 Technical Session Three: Embedding Teacher Education in the Multi-disciplinary context

 Dr Asawari Bhave Gudipudi, Dean of Humanities & Social Sciences & Principal, School of  Education & Research, MIT Art, Design and Technology University, Pune was the resource person. She gave a bird’s eye view of NEP 2020 and its recommendations. She further elucidated the benefits of multi-disciplinary education such as development of collaboration skills, learning without boundaries, making learning relevant and contextual and having different perspectives.

 Session Four: Revised NAAC Accreditation Framework : Reflections in the Light of NEP 2020

 A discussion was held on the topic ‘Revised NAAC Accreditation Framework andInstitutional Preparedness in the light of NEP 2020’. Dr Agnes DCosta, Associate Professor, Pushpanjali College of Education, Vasai elucidated about  revised NAAC Accreditation Framework and the criteria therein. Connecting the same to NEP 2020 she led the participants to deliberate upon institutional preparedness with respect to NEP delving upon Multidisciplinary / interdisciplinary nature of institutions , Academic bank of credits (ABC), Skill development, Appropriate integration of Indian Knowledge System , Focus on Outcome based education (OBE) and distance education/online education.

 Papers were presented on different subthemes. The paper reading session gave new insights to the changes that will be part of the educational landscape in the years ahead. Principal Dr Mabel Pimenta thanked the participants and said that the college would further organize session to facilitate intellectual discussions on pertinent topics.
