 NATIONAL LEVEL SEMINAR ORGANIZED BY IQAC 

EDUCATION FOR TRANSFORMATION 

On 23 February 2019, the  IQAC of Pushpanjali College of Education organized a National level seminar on the theme 'EDUCATION FOR TRANSFORMATION'. The seminar began with a short prayer service that highlighted the importance of education. Prof. Dr. Sunita Magre in her inaugural address delved into the eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). She mostly stressed on the second goal i.e. achieving universal primary education She said that basic education should be quality education and it is the job of the teachers to do so. She discussed at length the need to impart education that helps to induce employability skills. The connect between 21st century skills and the revised B.Ed curriculum was duly made. Dr Magre also elucidated the importance of gender equity and gender equality. She concluded by emphasizing the need to promote education that helps to develop values and usher a culture of peace. 





The next resource person Dr.Sr. Ananda Amritmahal , Principal of Sophia's College, Mumbai. Dr. Sr. Ananda explained the process of transformation with reference to the present context, challenges, opportunities and universal aspirations. She said that the skill of asking questions was the basis of transformation. She discussed about the U Process which helps to move from challenges to response and from reacting to reframing.



In the next session, the participants had the privilege to interact with Shri Deepak Nagargoje, founder- president of Shantiwan, an NGO involved in education of the marginalized. Mr. Hemant Dongre and alumnus of Pushpanjali college introduced Shri Nagargoje by showing a video showing his work in the rural areas. Shri Nagargoje explained how education can transform an entire generation. He said that education is a tool to change the society. He discussed about the problems in the interior rural areas and elucidated how education is the remedy for many of these problems. He shared various experiences from Shantiwan thus giving the audience an insight of the travails of rural life.



 Post lunch in a technical session participants presented papers on various sub themes. Dr Cindrella D'Mello, Assistant Professor, St. Teresa's Institute of Education chaired the session and summarized the thoughts shared by the presenters.



The valedictory function was graced by Dr Sr Tanuja Waghmare, Principal of St. Teresa Institute of Education. She showed a video on 21st century education and highlighted the need for making education a team centric effort.

Mrs. Sarika Rawat presented her experiences of the seminar. Dr. Sheetal Chaudhari proposed the vote of thanks. The seminar was successfully envisioned and executed by the Manager of the institution Sr Sushila D‟Silva, Convener Principal Dr Mabel Pimenta, Organizing secretaries Ms Angelina Nunes and Dr Helen Jadhav and the organizing committee members Dr Sheetal Chaudhari, Dr Agnes D‟Costa, Ms Heather Gabriel and Ms Nikita Rebello.

The proceedings (25 research papers) of the seminar were published by Ajanta Prakashan in form of an International Multidisciplinary Quarterly, Peer reviewed, Referred, UGC listed (J.N.40770) Research Journal (ISSN 2277-5730) with 5.5 Impact Factor.
