Ushering a Renaissance in Higher Education
On 28 November 2015, a one day ICSSR Western Region Council sponsored National seminar entitled ‘Ushering a Renaissance in Higher Education’ was organized by the IQAC. About forty participants comprising of teacher-educators and student-teachers benefitted from the seminar. Dr Jayshree Mehta, Principal St Joseph’s College, Rajodi, Vasai inaugurated the seminar. The key note address by Dr Shefali Pandya, Professor, Dept of Education, University of Mumbai helped the participants to immerse themselves in reflection on ‘Equity, Expansion and Excellence: the pivots of higher education’ .

Learning: An impetus to Higher
Education’ enfolded before the
participants the magical world of e-learning and showed actual demonstrations
of how digital technology can enhance the effectiveness of learning. Dr
Mariamma Joseph, Principal of Pushpanjali College of Education, Vasai
deliberated on the theme ‘Renaissance in Higher Education: Mapping Teacher
Competencies’. Papers were presented on four sub themes Mapping and Management
of Higher Education, Capacity Building through use of ICT, New Trends for
Dynamism in Higher Education and Quality Concerns in Higher Education. Dr Mabel Pimenta and Ms Angelina Nunes chaired the
paper reading sessions.
Dr Ancy Jose, Principal, Nagindas Khandwala
College, Malad presented the valedictory address on ‘India as a key player in
world economy: My role as a teacher’ wherein she expounded the importance of
being a sincere teacher whose interaction is entrenched in values.
The seminar helped to relate to issues and
challenges in Higher Education and offered insights to usher a renaissance in
this field. Sr Sushila D’Silva was the chief patron of thje seminar. Dr
Mariamma Joseph was the Convenor and Dr Sheetal Chaudhari and Dr Agnes D’Costa
were the Organizing Secretaries.State level workshop for Teachers
A three day State Level Workshop
was organized for the benefit of around 20 teachers from Pratinidhi High
School, Sangli. Dr Sheetal Chaudhari conducted a session on ‘Multiple
Intelligences in the Classroom’, Ms Angelina Nunes conducted session on ‘ICT in
Education’, Dr Helen Jadhav conducted a session on Language Learning Skills and
Dr Agnes D’Costa conducted session on ‘Seven Habits of Effective Teachers’ and
‘Pedagogy of Games’. The teachers then demonstrated the use of these
techniques. A visit to National English High School, Virar was organized to
help them get acquainted with the innovative practices of the school.
